A ship unloading installation has a carrying arm (4) and a steep-angle jib (9), the latter being able if necessary also to execute a lateral evasive movement in the event of excessive lateral forces. Since accommodation problems would arise if a swivel axis were to be arranged physically in the region of the transition from carrying arm (4) to steep-angle jib (9), a construction (74-80) is proposed which permits a swivelling movement about a virtual axis (20). <IMAGE>
