PURPOSE:To prevent the base material part of a pipe from being cut, by simultaneously cutting at least one or more strips to be removed of pipe end ribs in the steel pipe with a rib having on its internal surface the multistripped spiral ribs. CONSTITUTION:A frame 12 is advanced toward a steel pipe 1 with a rib placed on a roller 3. In accordance with the above action, a mounting bed 20, tiltably provided in the frame 12, also advances simultaneously, inserting a tool 30 into an end part of said steel pipe 1. Here a positioning roller, mounted to the end part of the frame 12, restricts a depth of insertion of the tool 30. Under this condition, an apparatus, rotating the steel pipe 1 while the tool 30 to be pressed to an internal surface of the steel pipe 1 by tilting the mounting bed 20 through a pressing means 26, simultaneously cuts at least one or more strips of ribs to be removed. Here the tool 30 is pressed to the rib with predetermined pressing force by a buffer spring 24. And the apparatus can remove the rib in the pipe end part of the steel pipe 1 without cutting its base material part by actuating a cylinder 27 by a stroke set by an oil hydraulic checker 28.
