NEW MATERIAL:An optically active derivative expressed by formula I (R is H or lower alkoxyl; R1 is methyl or phenyl or benzyl which may be substituted by halogen or lower alkoxy; the absolute configuration at the 1-and 1'-positions is either one of R or S configuration). EXAMPLE:(1R, 1'S)-1-( p-Mehtoxyphenyl )-3-[N-benzyl-N-(1'-isopropyl-2'-hydr-oxy ethyl) amino]-1-propan-1-o1. USE:An analgesic agent, antispasmodic agent, antiemetic agent, antitussive agent or psychoneurotic agent such as drug for Parkinson's disease, etc., an an intermediate therefor. PREPARATION:An optically active 1-aryl-3-aminopropane derivative expressed by formula II is reacted with an organotitanium compound expressed by formula III (Y is lower alkoxyl or halogen; n is 1, 2 or 3) to give the compound expressed by formula I.
