PURPOSE:To decrease the thermal influence from a slab and to extend the life over the entire part of segments by arranging alternately two kinds of grooved rolls in such a manner that the positions of the rugged parts formed by annular grooves are alternated by each of the adjacent rolls. CONSTITUTION:The many annular grooves 3 are provided at prescribed intervals on the surfaces of both I type rolls 1 and II type rolls 2. Each roll 1 is formed with the recess 5 in the central part 4 of the roll by the annular groove 3. Each roll 2 is formed conversely with the projecting part 6 in the central part 4 of the roll. These rolls 1, 2 are alternately disposed in the pass line direction (arrow P direction), by which the recesses 5 and the projecting parts 6 are arranged alternately. The groove width (a) of each recess 5 is preferably made smaller than the width (b) of the projecting part 6 and more preferably a:b=1:2. The groove bottom is rounded as largely as possible. The life over the entire part of the segments is thus extended. |
