A liquid distributing device of the type which is portable with a tank strapped to the operators back or of the type mounted on a boom &c. on a powered vehicle comprises a distributor 2, Fig. 1, provided with one or more liquid discharge orifices having a diameter of between 0.010 to 0.062 inches and means for oscillating the distributor in a curved path at a frequency such that a spray of substantially non-drifting liquid droplets of weedkiller &c. is produced. The shaft 1 of the cylindrical distributor 2 is provided with an armature 5 which is attracted by coils 8, 9 when they are energised so that the shaft is rotated against the action of a spring 6 until contact between a spring blade 12 and a fixed point 13 is broken. The weedkiller &c. is fed to the distributor via a feed pipe 3 and a flexible bellows 4. The distributor may be oscillated about an axis external to itself, Fig. 6 (not shown). In the embodiment of Fig. 4 the distributor shaft 5 is provided with a cam follower 4 and is oscillated by a cam vhich is rotated by a motor 1, and in the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown) the rotary drive from a motor is converted into an oscillatory movement at the distributor shaft by a crank arrangement. The distributor may be of a thermoplastic or thermosetting resin and may be formed as an extension of a hollow shaft. The spray width may conveniently be adjusted by varying the pressure of the liquid supply.</p> |
