NEUTRALIZING METHOD OF SEAWATER FOR WASHING INERT GAS IN TANKER

PURPOSE:To avoid the loading of caustic soda to the inside of a tanker by producing caustic soda in an electrolytic cell provided to the petroleum tanker, neutralizing seawater for washing which is dissolved with the acidic gas by the caustic soda and discharging the seawater. CONSTITUTION:An inert gas contg. an acidic gas (e.g. an exhaust gas of a boiler 3) is washed in a scrubber 4 by using the seawater fed through an introduction pipe 9 and after decreasing the acidic gas concn. contained in the inert gas, it is fed to a petroleum tank 1 and while keeping the oxygen concn. in the atmosphere contacting with petroleum in an explosion limit and below, petroleum is transferred to the outside of a petroleum tanker 2. In this case, caustic soda is produced by electrolyzing the common salt-contg. soln. while feeding the soln. to an electrolytic cell provided to the tanker 2 and the caustic soda is stored in a storage vessel 7. The seawater for washing which is dissolved with the above-mentioned acidic gas is neutralized by the caustic soda midway in an exhaust pipe 11 and the neutralized seawater is discharged. By the above method, the loading of high-concn. caustic soda itself to the inside of the tanker can be avoided.
