Device for locking a glove compartment 1, especially of a vehicle dashboard, which comprises a closing lock 30, a tab 11 for the manual control of the opening of the glove compartment, and a rod 19 mounted rotatably on the latter and making a functional connection between the control tab and at least one bolt carried by said rod 19 and engageable in a keeper carried by the dashboard, characterised in that the control rod 19 carries a bent lever 15 mounted rotatably about an axis 17 substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the rod 19 and connected rigidly to said rod, and causing functional bearing contact with the tab 11 and the removal of said bearing contact, depending on whether the lock 30 occupies an opening position or a closing position. <IMAGE>
