A lubricating composition comprises a full ester derived from a polyol having 2 or more methylol groups attached to a quarternary carbon atom, and an alkanoic acid having a carbon chain of at least 5 atoms, or a mixture of such acids having carbon chains of an average length of at least 5 atoms, said ester being blended with minor proportions of a phosphatide and a secondary amine. A typical ester is trimethylol propane tri-n-heptanoate. Phosphatides mentioned include a - and b -lecithin, and a and b -cephalin; and secondary amines include phenyl-a - and b -naphthylamines, and p,p -dioctyl-diphenylamine. N-ethyl-phenodiphenyl silazine may be present as a sludge-retarding compound. |
