987,906. Valves. BORSIG A.G., and W. HARTMANN. Feb. 6, 1962 [March 15, 1961], No. 4616/62. Heading F2V. A valve has a spherical plug 5 mounted by means of two bearing pins 6, 7 in a housing 1, packing rings 21 adapted to be displaced in the direction of the bore in the housing by guide rings 20, and cams 24 formed on the surface of the plug to enable the packing and guide rings to be pushed away from the plug when the latter is to be removed from the housing. A conical face 26 on the guide ring is engaged by tapered ends on a series of radial screws (not shown) to permit sealing pressure to be applied to the rings 21 which are mounted on bearing rings 19 backed by resilient rings 22. The housing is closed by covers 11, 14 bolted together at 15, axially located by a ring 12 and sealed by an 0-ring 16. To operate the plug, a spanner may be fitted to a square portion 8 of the pin 7 or an electric motor may be connected to the plug by gearing. A seal may be provided on the outer circumference of the ring 19, the seal 22 being replaced by a resilient body, and one end of each guide bush may have a helical edge to cooperate with a similar edge on a fixed bush, a locking screw being provided to secure the bush after sealing pressure has been adjusted. Alternatively, an oblique edge on the bush may cooperate with a flat face on a radial pin (not shown). In Fig. 9, sealing pressure is applied by inserting a yoke 52 with tapered ends 54 between a collar 51 on the guide bush and a wall 56 of the housing. Removal of the yoke is facilitated by an eyelet 55.
|
