A method and device for image processing for digital copiers, facsimile devices, etc., in which image signals are processed, are specified. This device includes an edge detector to detect an edge area of the image signal, a smoothing circuit to smooth the image signal, an edge emphasizing circuit to emphasize the edge of the image signal, and a mixer to mix the output signal of the smoothing circuit with the output signal of the edge emphasizing circuit. The mixing ratio of the output signal of the smoothing circuit and the output signal of the edge emphasizing circuit is altered according to the output signal of the edge detector. The edge detector detects the edge by linear differentiation. With this device, the moiré effect from a grid image in the original document can be suppressed, and characters and linear drawings can be reproduced with great faithfulness to the original document. |
