摘要 771,488. Locating objects by radiation beams. TURCK, J. June 16, 1954 [June 17, 1953], No. 17645/54. Class 40 (3). Apparatus for locating the position of an object with respect to reference axes comprises a screen of radial alternate opaque and transmitting sectors on which an image ot the objective is projected, the image being caused to move in a circular path relative to the screen, a photo-cell receiving the modulated image passing the screen and a frequency discriminator fed by the photo-cell from which is derived the object position. As shown, an image of the field in which the object to be located may appear is imaged by a lens 2 on to the photoemissive screen 3 of an image converter an electronic image being produced on the fluorescent end screen 4. Beyond the end screen is a fixed modulating device 9 consisting of alternately opaque and transmitting positions as shown in Fig. 7. Time bases 7x and 7y generate sinusoidal voltages differing in phase by 90 degrees which are applied to deflecting coils so as to rotate the centre target on the end screen thus, if the target is on the axis of the tube it describes a circle having the axis of the tube for centre, while if it is off the axis it describes a circle such as that shown in Fig. 7. Thus the photo-cell receiving light which has traversed the disc produces an output of constant frequency where the target is on the tube axis and of cyclically varying frequency when the target is off the axis. The cell output feeds an amplifier 10 and a frequency discriminator 11 the output of which varies with varying frequency. The discriminator 11 feeds a pair of phase detectors 12x, 12y respectively fed with the outputs of time bases 7x and 7y and producing at terminals X and Y outputs representing the co-ordinates of the target which may be used to operate servomotors where, for example, the device is a guided missile. The outputs at X and Y may be differentiated at 14x and 14y to yield rate components. Instead of the sections being divided by straight lines they may be wavy or curved. In a modification (Fig. 12, not shown), the optical image is focused on to the modulating disc by way of an inclined rotating mirror which is not mounted at right angles to its axis of rotation. Thus the image of the target is made to describe a circle over the surface of the fixed modulating disc. Operation is otherwise as for the embodiment described, except that the comparison signals for the phase detectors are generated by a disc interrupting light reaching a further photo-electric cell.
