The invention relates to a shelf unit comprising at least two levels. Mounted in it are a multiplicity of trays which can be revolved by means of a preferably manually operated mechanism so that each of the trays successively reaches a front position in which it displays its contents in a front view and in which it can be emptied and filled. This allows an advantageous presentation for self-service. Since the mechanism can also be driven continuously by motor, the revolving shelf unit is also suitable for use in display windows and for other exhibition purposes. Its units can be stacked on one another and placed adjacently and inserted as shelves in paternoster cabinets. The trays of the revolving shelf unit can accommodate paperback books, hardback books, video and audio cassettes, specimens of tiles and other products which are suitable by their size to be advantageously displayed in it for sale, for selection or for lending.
