发明名称 LIQUID CRYSTAL OPTICAL MODULATION ELEMENT
摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal optical modulation element having high light using effect by making the 1st polarizing beam and the 2nd polarizing beam reflected by a mirror incident upon respective picture element arrays in two zigzag picture element arrays of a liquid crystal element to modulate the intensity. CONSTITUTION:P-polarized light 21 is made incident upon the 1st picture element array 80 of a twist nematic type liquid crystal element 40 and a polarizing plate 50 arranged on the back of the 1st array 80. Since the polarizing axis of the polarizing plate 50 is arranged in parallel with a paper surface, the P-polarized light incident upon the element 40 to which a voltage is not yet impressed is rotated at its polarized surface by 90 deg. at the time of projection and turned to a direction rectangular to the paper surface, so that the polarized light is interrupted by the polarizing plate 50. The P-polarized light incident upon the element 40 to which a voltage is impressed is projected as it is and transmitted through the polarizing plate 50. Such kind of voltage impression is executed by a transparent electrode group 62 formed on one substrate 6 and two transparent electrodes 72 formed on the other substrate 71 arranged oppositely to the substrate 61 through liquid crystal, a part shown by slashed lines is one picture element and the picture elements form two picture element arrays 80, 81 and are arrayed like zigzag shape.
