In a device for producing, transferring and evaluating amplitude-modulated axle counting signals, the evaluation of the said signals takes place in a device which lies at a distance from the track (GS). A twin pulse generator which is located on the track (GS) generates two alternating current signals (WS1, WS2) of different frequency, which signals (WS1, WS2) pass together with an unmodulated alternating current identifier (WN) through a relatively long transmission route (UE) to the evaluation device. The alternating current signals (WS1, WS2) are fed to two pulse-length modulators (OP1/OP2, OP3/OP4) which can be controlled using a direct voltage derived from the alternating current identifier (WN). Pulse-length detectors (Z1/G5/MK1, Z2/G6/MK2) connected downstream supply the pulses required for implementing a counting mechanism (Z). For monitoring purposes, a device which outputs an assessment signal (GT) only when both modulators output dynamic signals is connected to the pulse-length modulators (OP1/OP2, OP3/OP4). <IMAGE>
