In an arrangement and mounting of a bolt, pin or the like in a chain link which is to be connected by means of the bolt, pin or the like, an insert is arranged between the bolt and the chain link and encloses the bolt over no more than 180 DEG of its circumference. The insert has extensions which project beyond the wrapping region and has sides facing one another which are outwardly offset in relation to the wrapping region in such a way that dirt-repelling shoulders are produced which prevent penetration of particles of dirt into the wrapping region.
