In order to dispose of the dioxins, occurring in the combustion or pyrolysis of waste, in a manner which is not environmentally harmful, according to the invention it is proposed that the exhaust gas of a pyrolysis plant (1) is fed to a combustion chamber (3), in which the pyrolysis gas is burnt at above 1200 DEG C in the said combustion chamber. The exhaust gases of a waste incineration plant (2) are likewise advantageously fed to the pyrolysis gas afterburner (3). <IMAGE>
