PURPOSE:To use an electric power source switch without unconsciousness by a user by automatizing the action of an electric power source built in the bar code pen scanner main body. CONSTITUTION:When the tip of a sliding part 2 contacts with a bar code symbol printing surface of the inspected material and slides in the direction of an arrow, a switch part 3 is built in which is turned on so that an electric power source circuit 4 can be closed. The sliding part 2 has a protrusion 21 and a spring 22 provided between an inner wall of a pen scanner main body 1 and the protrusion 21, and the switch part 3 has connecting point springs 31 and 32 which are turned on when the sliding part 2 slides in the above-mentioned direction of an arrow. While the tip of the sliding part 2 contacts with a printing surface 5, the protrusion 21 pushes a connecting point spring 31, and therefore, the connecting point springs 31 and 32 are in the on condition. Consequently, the electric power source 4 goes to be a closed condition and the bar code can be detected. Next, the scanning of the printing surface 5 is completed, the pen scanner main body 1 is separated from the printing surface 5, and the sliding part 2 returns to the original condition by a reloading force of the spring 22.
