A valve-controlled radial piston pump comprising digital flow rate adjustment is described, which by virtue of design measures and by a specific combination of components achieves a significant improvement of the volumetric efficiency, particularly when used with low-viscosity media such as water and HFA, especially in the high-pressure range. One of the essential individual measures consists in a piston-cylinder arrangement free of transverse forces, by virtue of which an increase of the piston travel and, as a result, a considerable improvement in the volumetric efficiency can be achieved. A further combined measure is a digital flow rate adjustment by regulating elements which are assigned to the individual intake valves and prevent these from closing during the discharge stroke. Said digital flow rate adjustment, compared to the conventional analog flow rate adjustments, plays just as significant a role in improving the volumetric efficiency, especially in the reduced flow rate range.
