PURPOSE:To decide the genuineness of a seal print to be collated by deciding the coincidence of collation after indicating the revolving direction where the maximum degree of coincidence is obtained bad on the change of the degree of coincidence between the revolving angles of positive and negative directions. CONSTITUTION:A reading part 1 reads the seal print to be collated and delivers a seal print pattern 4 to a position matching part 2. Then the position of the pattern 4 is matched with that of another seal print pattern registered previously through the part 2. Thus seal print patterns are compared with each other at a coincidence deciding part 3. In a position matching mode with revolving shift, the part 3 indicates the direction of the revolving angle to the pat 2 based on the change of the degree of coincidence related to the sloping angle of the seal print pattern to the registered pattern between both indicated positive and negative directions. Thus the part 3 functions to obtain the maximum degree of coincidence between both seal print patterns. In such a way, the genuineness can be decided in a short processing time for the seal print to be collated.
