PURPOSE:To obtain the title magnetic recording medium almost without any malfunctions and decreases in the reproducing output by providing a magnetic layer on the upper surface of a carrier and a back layer consisting of TinO2n-1 on the lower surface. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer is provided on the upper surface of a carrier, and a back layer consisting of TinO2n-1 is furnished on the lower surface. gamma-Fe2O3, gamma-Fe2O3 contg. Co, Fe3O4 and Fe3O4 contg. Co, a ferromagnetic alloy consisting of Fe, Co and/or Ni, iron nitride, and magnetoplumbite-type ferrite of Ba, Sr, Pb, Sc, etc. are exemplified as the magnetic body to be used for the magnetic layer. The thickness of the magnetic layer is appropriately regulat ed to about 1-5mum, and the magnetic layer can be formed by a general coating method or a PVD method. titanium oxide to be used for the back layer expressed by TinO2n-1 is the mixed crystal of a tetragonal crystal and a cubic crystal, the thickness of the back layer is preferably controlled to 100-10,000Angstrom , and the back layer is formed on the carrier by a PVD method such as sputtering, vapor deposition and ion plating.
