PURPOSE:To obtain a high-purity alkali metallic salt of acrylic acid while preventing polymerization of a reaction product, by reacting acrylic acid with a solution of an alkali metallic salt in a specific organic solvent at a specified temperature, and treating the reaction product specifically. CONSTITUTION:An alkali metallic carbonate or bicarbonate, preferably Na2CO3 is suspended in an organic solvent which does not dissolve an alkali metallic salt of acrylic acid and has 50-110 deg.C boiling point at normal pressure, and neutralized with acrylic acid in the presence of a small amount of molecular O2 at <=50 deg.C. After the reaction is over, the reaction mixture is refluxed at the boiling temperature of the organic solvent under heating, the formed water is separated and removed as azeotropic mixture, and the solution is filtered to give an alkali metallic salt of acrylic acid. It is then dried at <=50 deg.C under reduced pressure, to give the aimed compound having >=99wt% high purity. n-Hexane, cyclohexane, benzene, toluene, etc., are used as the organic solvent, and the amount of the organic solvent is >=5->=30 times as much as acrylic acid by weight.
