摘要 Polymers of mono-1-olefins are prepared and freed from catalyst residues by polymerizing, e.g. in bulk, one or more of the olefins in the presence of a catalyst comprising an organometallic compound and a metal salt, recovering from the polymerization an effluent containing solid polymer, soluble polymer, catalyst residues and liquid olefin, mixing the effluent with a diketone under conditions such that the olefin remains in the liquid phase, recovering the effluent, and introducing it into the upper portion of an elongated washing zone, whilst introducing into a lower portion of the zone a low boiling wash hydrocarbon under such conditions that the wash liquid remains in the liquid phase, and recovering from the lower portion of the zone a slurry of solid polymer in the low boiling hydrocarbon. In the washing zone a temperature differential exists between the upper and lower portions of the zone, the temperature of the upper portion being higher than the temperature of the lower portion. The polymerization may be effected in the presence of hydrogen, and a hydrocarbon diluent. The 1-olefin may be ethylene, propylene, 1-butene, 1-pentene, or 3-methyl-1-butene. The Specification contains an extensive list of suitable catalysts of which a mixture of diethylaluminium chloride and the reaction product of aluminium and TiCl4 is exemplified. Many diketones are specified of which acetylacetone is exemplified. The low boiling wash hydrocarbon is preferably propylene, but n-pentane, 1-butene, and 3-methyl-1-butene, may also be used as well as mixtures. The process may be effected continuously and the Specification includes a flow diagram of a continuous bulk process using two loop reactors. The product may be separated into a pentane and a xylene soluble fraction. Specification 982,736 is referred to.
