摘要 PURPOSE:To increase the response speed of a liquid-crystal display device by laminating three layers of liquid-crystal cells between substrates which have an electrode and an oriented film so that orientation directions of the liquid-crystal cells are matched and mixing a dichroic pigment of different color with ferroelectric liquid crystal which has a specific tilt angle for each liquid-crystal layer. CONSTITUTION:Substrates 2a-2d have transparent electrodes 3 on their mutually opposite surfaces and oriented films 4a1, 4a2, 4b2, 4c1, and 4c2 formed thereupon. The three liquid-crystal cells in which liquid-crystal layers 5a, 5b, and 5c are sealed hermetically are laminated between those substrates respectively, the orientation directions of the respective liquid-crystal cells are matched, and dichroic pigments of, for example, red, green, and yellow are mixed with the ferroelectric liquid crystal which has an about 45 deg. tilt angle for the respective liquid-crystal layers; and further a polarizing plate 7 is arranged at the incidence side of the liquid-crystal cells to constitute the device 1. In this constitution, the impression of an electric field to each liquid-crystal layer is repeated at a proper time ratio of red, green, and blue transmitted light rays, and additive color mixing with time is performed smoothly because the response speed of the ferroelectric liquid crystal is fast.
