PURPOSE:To improve dioxidation efficiency and to produce a steel suitable for a magnetic material, etc., by blowing oxygen to a molten steel to oxidize and separate Mg in the molten steel in a degassing vessel then adding carbon thereto and dixidizing the molten steel. CONSTITUTION:An RH degassing vessel is used as a treating vessel for oxygen blowing. While part of the molten steel is continuously circulated, oxygen is blown through a lance to the circulating molten steel surface, by which the molten steel is subjected to oxygen blowing. The Mg in the molten steel is thereby separated away as MgO. The carbon is then added into the vessel to dioxidize the molten steel. An SiO2 oxide is perferably added to the molten steel prior to or after the addition of the carbon to decrease the basicity of slag. The economical production of various kinds of steels having high purity is made possible by the above-mentioned method. |
