PURPOSE:To obtain a high-density recording medium which shows a chemical or physical change on a molecular basis under an external cause, by constituting a recording medium of a monomolecular film or built-up film thereof a specified compound, a liquid layer and a reflective layer. CONSTITUTION:The recording medium comprises an aluminum vapor-deposited glass 7 provided thereon with a two-layer built-up chelate complex molecule film consisting of cis-form chelate ligand molecules 1 and metal ions (or metal atoms) 3, and immersed in a liquid phase 6 contained in a container having a top face formed of a transparent glass plate 5. When the recording medium is irradiated with trans-form isomerizing light 4, rearrangement to trans-form chelate ligand molecules 2 takes place at the irradiated part, thereby releasing the metal ions 3. Thus, a recording medium with information recorded therein can be obtained. The record is reproduced by irradiating the medium with monitoring light 8 and reading the variations in the intensity of reflected light 9, 9'. When the medium is irradiated with cis-form isomerizing light, rearrangement to cis-form chelate ligand molecules takes place to take in the metal ions, whereby the record is erased. |
