PURPOSE:To make it possible to easily judge the quality of a plating property with good reproducibility and high reliability within a short time, by contacting a solution containing a metal ion of which the ionization tendency is more noble than that of a metal to be plated, with the metal to be plated prior to plating the surface of said metal to precipitate a noble metal by metal/metal ion exchange reaction. CONSTITUTION:A metal to be plated is immersed in or coated with a solution a metal ion of which the ionization tendency is more noble than that of the metal to be plated, for example, a solution containing a metal such as Ni, Cu or Ag more noble than Zn when Zn is desired to be plated to precipitate the noble metal by metal/metal ion exchange reaction and the plated layer is observed by the naked eye or a loupe. By this method, it is unnecessary to try actual plating and the cleaning degree of a surface to be plated can be judged easily and accurately within a short time. The material used in judgement can be reused by simply removing the precipitated metal by a mechanical method such as buffing or chemical disolution.
