PURPOSE:To utilize effectively, as resources, red mud which is obtd. from alumina smelting and has been conventionally discarded as industrial waste, by molding a mixture of a thermosetting resin and a specified quantity or less of red mud into a flooring material, etc. CONSTITUTION:The max. content of red mud is 75wt% and the balance is a thermosetting resin. Since the mixture itself is thermosetting, it can be molded into articles having various shapes by molding methods similar to those for conventional thermosetting resins. Further, since red mud has a small particle size distribution, characteristics inherent to the thermosetting resin can be utilized and hence complicated molding can be made and the mixture can be molded in a substantially similar manner to plastic processing.
