PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for synthetic resins, etc., selectively in good yield in a short time, by reacting a polyhydric alcohol with an epihalohydrin in the presence of a catalyst at a low temperature, and adding a dehydrohalogenating agent thereto to epoxidize the reaction prod uct. CONSTITUTION:A polyhydric alcohol is reacted with 1-1.5 equivalents, preferably 1.05-1.2 equivalents, based on the above-mentioned compound, epihalohydrin in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. boron trifluoride ethyl etherate, at -20-5 deg.C, preferably -10-0 deg.C particularly in the presence of the boron troifluoride ethyl etherate, at <=0 deg.C, and the resultant product halohydrin intermediate is then treated with a dehydrohalogenating agent and epoxidized to give the aimed advantageously the aimed polyhydric alcohol glycidyl ether useful as a modifier and reactive diluent, for synthetic resins, modifier for paper, fiber and high polymer materials and further crosslinking agent, adhesive, etc.
