PURPOSE:To enable document numbers to be known from a key word at about the same speed as heretofore without using sub-memory by sucking retrieval information on a main memory after mounting the optical disk on a drive. CONSTITUTION:A retrieval information area 13 is a part in which the retrieval information concerning the first to N-th informations written in a document information area 11 is written. When the number N of the document is L-times (L=1, 2, 3,...) of a predetermined value M (for example, M=1,000), that is, N=L.M, retrieval information concerning the first to N-th information is supplemented. When the optical disk used as document file disk is set on an optical disk deck 15, the deck 15 is controlled by means of a document file interface part 18 to read the most recent retrieval information written in the retrieval information area of the disk and load it on the main memory 20.
