PURPOSE:To make differential limiting action demonstrable all the time at the time of four-wheel driving as well as to improve drivability ever so better, by installing an actuator which makes clamping force of a friction clutch element variable by means of an external input, while controlling it with a clamping force control device. CONSTITUTION:In case of a four-wheel drive vehicle which is provided with a limited slip differential 4 being made up of installing friction clutch elements 3 and 3' interposingly between differential case 1 and each of side gears 2 and 2' and makes a two-wheel drive state and a four-wheel drive state selectable, an actuator 5, making clamping force of these friction clutch elements 3 and 3' variable by means of an external input,is installed in the differential 4. This actuator is constituted of a hydraulic cylinder. And, it is made so as to be operatable by a drive selector lever, selecting the four-wheel drive state and the two-wheel drive state by operation of a driver, and hydraulic pressure outputted out of a clamping force control device 6 inclusive of a master cylinder.
