PURPOSE:To improve the reliability by adjusting the position of a housing in accordance with signals resulting from detecting and comparison of upper and lower detecting servo heads of the head position and making it possible that centers of a write head and a read head coincide with each other easily. CONSTITUTION:When centers of a servo data track 9 and a servo head 6 are in the same position, the difference between read waveform outputs read out from head position upper and lower detecting servo heads 7 and 8 is zero, and a head position adjusting motor 14 is not moved, and the head 6, a write head 5, and a read head 4 are positioned correctly. Meanwhile, when the head 6 is in the upper side of a data track 2, the output of the head 7 is smaller than that of the head 8, and a head movement extent detecting circuit 11 gives the output proportional to this difference to a head position adjusting servo circuit 12, and a head moving direction detecting circuit 10 gives the head moving direction to the circuit 12 to move a motor 14, thus positioning correctly heads 5 and 4 on the same housing 3.
