PURPOSE:To improve the yield of a free cutting component added to molten steel by filling granules of the free cutting component such as Ca or Pb into iron capsules so as to regulate the apparent specific gravity of the capsules to >=8 and by adding the filled capsules to molten steel. CONSTITUTION:Powder or granules of Ca, one or more among Pb, Bi and Te, or an alloy thereof as a free cutting component are filled into iron capsules so as to regulate the apparent specific gravity of the capsules to >=8. The filled capsules settle in molten steel because the specific gravity is higher than that of steel. The capsules are added to molten steel. |
