PURPOSE:To evade a defective part by referring to the contents of a memory when the track at the defective part is selected and inhibiting a clock signal during writing or a READ DATA/CLOCK signal in reading from being transmitted to a DKC side. CONSTITUTION:A microprocessor 1 when receiving an indication of a track where data is written or read from a DKC moves a READ/WRITE head to the desired track, and fetches defect information on the track from the memory 2 and sets it in a latch circuit 7. Further, '2' should be stored previously before the defect information is detected at a DKU side and connected to the DKC. The data structure of '2' consists of one defect and two bytes and the distance from the defective part from an index is indicated by the two bytes. When it is extended, one byte is added to store information up to defective bit length, thereby controlling the length of a part (b) freely.
