A switch is operated after a preset delay alternatively following the energization or deenergization of an electromagnet, this change of function being obtained by the mere rotation of a screw. An actuating unit 2, comprising an electromagnetically - operated plunger 4, and a time-delay contact unit 3 are mounted on a base plate 1 which also carries a rocker arm 6 interconnecting the plunger 4 and a tappet 5A engaging the operating member 5 of the unit 3. The member 5 is capable of returning elastically and slowly to its initial position after having been depressed. As shown, the arm 6 is free to pivot on a shaft 7 which is threadedly engaged at one end in a support 8 and at the other end has a conical part 7C seating in a V-notch 15. Under these conditions energization of unit 2 causes plunger 4 to rock the arm 6 such that member 5 of unit 3 is depressed; upon subsequent de-energization of unit 2, unit 3 will restore with a delayed action. The shaft 7, however, may be screwed into support 8 by means of a slotted head (Fig. 3, not shown) whereupon projections 12A, 12B on arm 6 enter apertures 13A,13B in support 8 and lock the arm and support together. This prevents arm 6 pivoting about shaft 7 but the withdrawal of cone 7C from notch 15 allows support 8 to pivot about an axis X-X 1 , under the action of a spring 14, since it is journalled at 9A 10A and 9B, 10B. Spring 14 thus urges arm 6 towards the units 2 and 3 and holds member 5 depressed. Under these conditions energization of unit 2 causes plunger 4 to pivot the assembly of arm 6 and support 8, releasing member 5 which after the pre-set delay returns to the unoperated position. The delay unit 3 may comprise a pneumatic or clockwork mechanism. |
