PURPOSE:To obtain a sliding surface having superior resistance to wear, seizing and corrosion by forming a composite plated layer contg. wear resistant particles and lubricating particles dispersed in an alloy matrix consisting of specified amounts of Co, P and Ni on the sliding surface of a metallic sliding member. CONSTITUTION:A composite plated layer contg. 5-30vol% wear resistant particles 4 of <=10mum particle size and 5-35vol% lubricating particles 5 of <=20mum particle size dispersed in an alloy matrix 3 consisting of 10-40wt% Co, 2-15wt% P and 50-88wt% Ni is formed on the sliding surface 2 of a metallic sliding member 1. The wear resistant particles are made of alumina, silicon nitride, zirconia, titanium carbide or the like, and the lubricating particles are made of molybdenum disulfide, fluorinated graphite, boron nitride, mica or the like.
