PURPOSE:To obtain a functional alloy having superior formability and a high martensitic transformation start temp. by incorporating a specified amount of Ca into an alloy having a specified composition consisting of Ni and Ti and causing thermoelastic martensitic transformation. CONSTITUTION:0.001-0.5% Ca is incorporated into an NiTi alloy consisting of 50-60wt% Ni and the balance Ti and causing thermoelastic martensitic transformation. The alloy may further contain one or more among Cu, Al, V, Zr, Fe, Cr and Co substituted for part of said Ni or Ti. The incorporated Ca acts as a deoxidizing agent for the molten NiTi alloy and bonds to dissolved O, forming CaO, so it prevents O from entering the Ni-Te matrix as a solid soln. and Ti4Ni2O from precipitating in the matrix. Thus, the martensitic transformation start temp. of the functional NiTi alloy is increased, and the toughness and workability are improved.
