PURPOSE:To set a copying image in a desired direction so as to improve the operability, by providing a means which rotates a projected image around the optical axis and another means which detects the direction of the image. CONSTITUTION:Whether a projected image is longer in longitudinal direction or transverse direction and whether the image is inside a projecting extent or outside the extent are detected by means of two-kind/six-pieces density detecting elements 211-216 and their outputs CH1-CH6 are successively inputted and stored in a microcomputer 25 by switching. A prism 20 is rotated by 90 deg. by means of a driving circuit 26 and its projecting image is inputted in the microcomputer 25 by the same operation. Therefore, the projected image can be set in a desired direction by discriminating whether the image is longer in the longitudinal direction or transverse direction and the necessity of discriminating the direction of copying paper which cannot be seen from the outside by operators is eliminated. Moreover, the operability is extremely improved and occurrence of defective copies can be prevented.
