PURPOSE:To obtain the titled dispersion, having improved heat and chemical resistance, and useful for paints, etc., by incorporating poly-3-methylbutene-1 having a specific melting point and melt index with a high-boiling hydrocarbon solvent, dissolving the poly-3-methylbutene-1 in the solvent while heating at the boiling point of the solvent or above, and cooling the resultant solution. CONSTITUTION:A dispersion consisting of fine polymer particles dispersed in a medium consisting essentially of a hydrocarbon solvent is produced. In the process, the polymer is a polymer consisting essentially of poly-3-methylbutene-1 or a copolymer thereof having >=200 deg.C melting point and >=10g/10min melt flow index, and the above-mentioned polymer is incorporated with the hydrocarbon having <=250 deg.C boiling point or a mixed solvent consisting essentially of the hydrocarbon as a medium. The resultant mixture is once heated at the boiling point of the solvent or above to dissolve the polymer and the formed solution is then cooled to give the aimed polymer dispersion.
