PURPOSE:An ultraviolet light absorber suitable for imparting weather resistance to polyethylene terephthalate, etc., having improved heat resistance, requiring high-temperature processing, consisting of a specific 2-phenylbenzotriazole derivative. CONSTITUTION:A 2-(2'-Hydroxyphenyl)benzotriazole is dissolved in conc. sulfuric acid in a nitrogen flow, cooled to 10 deg.C, and reacted with an N,N'-bis(hydroxymethyl)aromatic dicarboxamide at 20-30 deg.C to give a 2- phenylbenzotriazole derivative shown by the formula I (R<1> and R<2> are halogen, hydroxyl, 1-3C alkyl, or 1-18C alkoxy; A is bifunctional group; m is 0, or 1-4; n is 0, or 1-3) such as a compound shown by the formula II or formula III. This compound is blended with another ultraviolet light absorber or an antioxidant, added to an organic high polymer material, or the derivative, and another material are applied to the surface of the organic high polymer material.
