PURPOSE:To strengthen a crankshaft by pouring molten cast iron after a steel plate is put at corner parts of the crankshaft and quenching the steel plates in the formed crankshaft. CONSTITUTION:The reinforcing steel plate 7 is put at the corner parts being a critical section of the crankshaft and the plates 7 are connected and held each other by a wire 11. The crankshaft is formed by pouring molten cast iron into a mold 10. Then, the steel plates 7 are quenched locally by a high frequency quenching or other methods and journal bearing parts 2 and others are grinded. The quenching is only a local quenching, so that the crankshaft is not suffered from rusting or bending totally. This method increases the fatigue strength of the critical sections to strengthen the crankshaft.
