NEW MATERIAL:An amino acid derivative shown by the formula I [C<+> shows (+) form; His is L-histidyl group; C* is S configuration; m is 1-3; n is 0, or 1; R is straight-chain, or branched alkyl or aralkyl] and its acid addition salt. EXAMPLE:(3S)-3-{N-[(+)-2-(1-Naphthylmethyl)-3-(phenethylcarbamoyl)-pro pionyl]L- histidyl}amino-2-hydroxy-5-methylhexanoic acid methyl ester. USE:Useful as a remedy for hypertension having an inhibitory action on resin activity, low toxicity and stability to protease, capable of being administered orally. PREPARATION:A compound shown by the formula II is reacted with a compound shown by the formula III (HX is hydrochloric acid, or P-toluenesulfonic acid), to give a compound shown by the formula I. The compound shown by the formula II is obtained from a compound shown by the formula IV and L-histidine methyl ester dihydrochloride as raw materials.
