To the hot residue heated to 80 DEG C and present by weight between 70 and 80 % of the total weight, there are added water between 20 and 30 % of the total weight, air between 10 and 20 % of the total volume, a surface-active agent and a foam stabiliser, the air being dispersed into small bubbles from 100 microns to 5 mm in size, so that at 80 DEG C the viscosity of the pure residue (upper plot) becomes 6 to 8 times lower (lower plot) and so that the composition becomes pumpable and remains stable to permit feeding a burner as a replacement for the conventional heavy fuel oil lightened by means of light cuts from the distillation of oil. <IMAGE>
