PURPOSE:To obtain a thin film magnetic head of a two element type which is suitable for a high density recording and also can execute recording and reproduction with a high efficiency by forming a joint part to which the lower magnetic layer and the upper magnetic layer contact, in a nearly trapezoidal or triangular shape. CONSTITUTION:A joint part 7 is formed in a trapezoidal shape, and as for this trapezoid, against a length (a) of the upper bottom positioned at a sliding surface 6 side, a length (b) of the lower bottom opposed to said upper bottom is made large, and one side of other laminated body side is vertical to the upper bottom. Therefore, even if the length of the upper bottom of the joint part is the same as or below the length of the horizontal direction of a conventional joint part, the length of the side of the joint part being near its magnetic gap can be enlarged by enlarging the length of the lower bottom, and the recording and reproducing efficiency of a magnetic head can be improved. Also, one side piece of other head element side is vertical to the upper bottom to each other, therefore, an inter-track guard band TG can be held in a small width, and the magnetic head can execute a high density recording by having a narrow track width TW and the inter-track guard band TG. |
