A profiled dressing tool for rotating grinding wheels is covered, on the effective surface, with scattered hard grain, in particular diamond grain. In order to fix that profile formed by the hard grain (12), hard profiled segments (16), in particular of polycrystalline synthetic diamond, are introduced into the surface. During dressing, the segments extend parallel or obliquely to the axis of rotation of the grinding wheel. Their profile is located essentially in the enveloping surface (14) of the outermost edges of the hard grains (12). <IMAGE>
