摘要 <p>A landing aid for helicopters in order to give the pilot audible and visual indications during simulated or actual autorotation landings in order to start and end the flare at the correct point in time which is specific to the helicopter. A normal landing is intended to be ensured thereby in order primarily to prevent the tail rotor striking the ground or water in a dangerous manner. In this case, a measurement system is used which uses a radar sensor on the tail skid to detect the altitude and sink rate of the helicopter and, at the same time, in particular, the vertical distance of the tail rotor from the ground, and supplies said information to a computer controller. The latter uses the measurements to derive the optimum point in time for the instruction to be given to the pilot. The use of a broad radar beam having a main beam direction pointing obliquely downwards/to the rear ensures that the vertical distance from the ground or water is always measured with high accuracy in all flare attitudes. The arrangement of the measurement unit at the tail makes the use of a high radar carrier frequency necessary, because of the volume and weight.</p>
