PURPOSE:To reduce the pulsation of the mobile phase flow rate with a simple construction, by making the pressure drop range on the inlet side of a resistance tube generated at the start of suction of a plunger pump less than the pressure drop range on the inlet and outlet sides due to the resistance tube during the discharge process of the pump. CONSTITUTION:Discharge is done at a specified speed while suction is done at a higher speed by operation of a plunger of a plunger pump 3 in a high-speed liquid chromatograph 1. A first damper 14, a resistance tube 15 and a second damper 16 are interposed in a mobile phase passage between a pressure sensor 6 and a sample injector section 7 sequentially from the sensor 6 side. Then, the rate of change in the volume of the damper 14 and the resistance rate of the resistance tube 3 are so arranged that the pressure drop range on the inlet side of the resistance tube 15 when the drop is caused depending on the amount of reverse mobile phase running up to the closure of a check valve is made less than the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet sides of the resistance tube 3 during the discharge process of the damper 14 immediately after the start of suction with the pump 3. Thus, the pulsation of the mobile phase flow rate is reduced with a simple construction to such an extent as not to affect the base line of a highly sensitive differential refractometer/detector or an electrochemical detector. |
