The gathering machine has a collecting chain and feeders arranged along the latter. In the feeder, the printed sheets are fed on a supporting plane, from where they are individually separated by a gripper drum and subsequently opened by two spreader drums and are deposited onto the collecting point. In order that the separating speed can be increased without misfeeds, it is provided that the supporting plane and also the axes of rotation of the gripper drums and of the spreader drums are inclined at an acute angle with respect to the conveying strand of the collecting chain. The inclination is such that they converge with the said strand, opposed in the conveying direction. <IMAGE>
