The tool has two pressure distribution plates which can be moved relative to one another, are each supported on a working cushion with in each case at least one working cylinder pressurised using a flow-pressure medium and of which one accommodates a blank holder and the other accommodates a tool contour, such as a drawing punch or an edging strip, movable relative to the said blank holder. The working cylinder of the two working cushions are connected in terms of flow so that when one pressure distribution plate descends, the flow-pressure medium forced out of the working cylinder supporting the latter flows into the working cylinder of the other working cushion and drives the pressure distribution plate supported on the said cushion in the opposite direction to the direction of motion of the descending pressure distribution plate.
