PURPOSE:To position a head with high accuracy, and to attain the high track density of a floppy disk by reading reference position information of a track which has been entered beforehand, onto a rotating disk, and offsetting the head. CONSTITUTION:A titled device is constituted so that position information of a carriage 12 is obtained by using a scale 7 fixed to a base 11, an actuator 8 is driven through a servo-circuit 20,and a head is positioned. Position signals XA, XB on a disk are read by detectors 5A, 5B which are fixed to the base and in the same phase relation position as the head against the disk, and added to an output of the servo-circuit 20 through an offset voltage generating circuit 21 corresponding to a track position. In this state, the head is positioned exactly on a track on the disk by moving the carriage 12 in accordance with a position error on the disk. In this way, by position information of two parts of each different radial position, position information of all track positions on the disk is obtained.
