PURPOSE:To enable a person who has fingers without characteristic fingerprint or fingers hard to fingerprint identification due to an injury, etc. to register by another finger, and enable the person to improve ability of individual identification by providing a characteristic parameter extracting section and a characteristic parameter memory. CONSTITUTION:In fingerprint registration, video signals inputted by a person who registers his fingerprints through fingerprint preparing sections 1-5 are A/D converted in a picture processing section 7 and inputted to a characteristic parameter extracting section 8 as data. The section 8 converts the data to characteristic parameter of the registered person and outputs. A comparator 9 compares characteristic parameters of five fingers, and outputs only one characteristic parameter of the largest value, and one of indicators 11-15 is lit up. The parameter is stored in a characteristic parameter memory 16 by operation of an address setting switch 17. By storing a characteristic parameter of a finger having the largest characteristic parameter out of five fingers, even a person who has a finger difficult to fingerprint identification can register by another finger, and thus ability of individual identification can be improved.
